Can’t resist! The “season of mists and mellow fruitfulness” has arrived. Although maybe a week or two late, there seems to be a good harvest of fruit, attended by the pesky wasps.

Tomorrow, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th September, you will be made very welcome by Richard Adams and Jane Beecham, when they open their home to view this year’s works.This would be an excellent opportunity to purchase directly from the artists. You may visit White Cottage, Rectory Lane, Playden, East Sussex, TN31 7HU any time between 11 am and 5 pm.

If this weekend is not possible for you, it will all happen again next weekend, 14th and 15th.

Playden Church will be hosting two events during Rye Festival. The first is on Thursday 19th at 7.30 pm, when Fantasticus will perform. The aim of the trio is to recreate repertoire from the early seventeenth century until the late baroque. They will play a baroque violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord.

The second is an afternoon event, on Friday 27th at 3 pm, when Stephen Preston will use his flute to give us “Bird Fancyers’ Delight.” It will be a delightful ,fascinating, brief history of bird song in music from the standpoint of a flute player. Stephen is a renowned player of 18th and 19th century flutes. He is donating his fee for this concert to the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.

On Saturday 7th September, there is a three mile walk at the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve to observe the movements of sea birds, coasting passerines, waders refuelling on the pools, and there could also perhaps be some raptors.(A passerine is a sort of sparrow-like bird.) Meet at Rye Harbour car park. Donations would be appreciated.

The mid-week services continue at Playden Church at 9.30 am for Morning Prayer and 3.30 pm for Evening prayer on Tuesday.

The 11 am service for 15th Sunday after Trinity will be Parish Communion led by the Vicar, Rev. Teresa Munro.
