Playden

Marion Lovell, Abingworth, New England Lane

Bank Holiday Monday and the sun is hot and strong. Surely something can’t be right?!

It was unusual to have a totally wet day all day on Saturday though, - filled up the water butts nicely.

I am told that the storm has caused some damage on the footpath between the churchyard and the Butt Field. A large oak tree fell, bringing with it other trees. At present the footpath is completely blocked and impassable.

Next week end, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th September, you are invited to the Open House of Richard Adams and Jane Beecham, who will welcome you to view this year’s works, and perhaps purchase directly from the artists.

White Cottage Rectory Lane, Peasmarsh Road, Playden, TN 31 7 UH will be open from 11 am until 5 pm each day. If you wished to contact them, the phone number is 01797 22 55 89.

Playden Parish Council will hold its next meeting on Thursday 5th September at 7.30 pm in the W.I. Hall. Remember that there is always a Public Session where you may raise any issues of concern or ask questions of the councillors, and the RDC and ESCC representatives who usually attend.

My thanks to Heather Coote for this report on the W.I .meeting.

The August meeting was the Garden Meeting at our President’s house and we were blessed with a fine and sunny day. There was not much business to go through, but members were reminded that Playden will host the Group Meeting in October.

Some members are looking forward to their trip in September, to the historic houses featured in Downton Abbey and Lark Rise to Candleford.

Thanks were given to the committee for the delicious sandwiches and cakes which we all enjoyed before the afternoon was over.

Next month our talk is entitled “Cruise Director - Part 2.”
