Playden is obviously relaxing and enjoying a holiday. Nobody seems to be doing very much !

You still have today and tomorrow, - Friday and Saturday - to visit the splendid Exhibition of Photographs by Dr. Douglas Moss, displayed in St. Mary’s Centre, Rye. Admission is free, and the exhibition is open from 10 am to 4 pm.

This is a major exhibition of photographs exploring the wondrous treasure trove of beauty and historical interest to be found in the fourteen churches on Romney Marsh.

This is not intended to be just a collection of pretty pictures, although every effort has been made to make all images interesting, but to explore detail and look at the history which has shaped the buildings we see today.

It is hoped that viewers will feel encouraged to discover for themselves this treasure house on our doorstep.

On Monday 12th August Rye Harbour Nature Reserve invites you to discover “Brilliant Birds.” Meet at Rye Harbour Car Park at 2 pm, returning about 4 pm. The walk is approx. 2 miles. Booking is on 01797 22 77 84.

On Tuesday 13th, their next event is called “Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud.”Meet at Lime Kiln Cottage at 10.30 am, returning about 12 noon. Booking as above.

On Wednesday 14th, it is “Shrimping and Rock Pooling at Pett Level.” Meet at the eastern entrance to Pett Level Village at 10 am, returning about 11.30 am. Booking as above.

On Thursday 15th, you could go “Pond Dipping at Castle Water” with a walk of about 2 miles. Meet at Brede Lock at 10 am, returning at 12 noon. Same booking number.

This is a wonderful opportunity to explore the local environment.

The Tuesday Painters’ 50th Annual Exhibition opens on Friday 16th August in the St. Mary’s Centre at 2 pm. Then it will be open daily from 10 am until 6 pm until Monday 26th August.

There is no Parish Council Meeting during August. the next one will be on Thursday 5th September at 7.30 pm in the Playden W. I. Hall.

The services at St. Michael’s Playden will be a little different during August. Although still Eucharistic, they will have a more contemplative format and be quiet and reflective. They will be led by the Vicar, Rev Teresa Munro. The next of these will be at 11 am on Sunday, 11th after Trinity.
