Sunday was apparently the hottest day of the year so far. Maybe we will need that advice on what to do in a heatwave after all.

Tomorrow, July 6, you need to put on your Stetsons and cowboy boots and head on down to li’’le ol’ Playden School for the Wild West Summer Fair. There are many activities and performances lined up. There is a rodeo bull - age restrictions apply - bouncy castle, face painting, tin can alley, Pimms, refreshments, fresh flowers, barbecue, refreshments, Wild West photo booth,, crafts for the children to make, and do, and panning for gold. There will be performances by Movers N Groovers, Dancing Divas, Splitz, Kelly Borne and much, much more. Everyone hopes for a fine day so that hordes of people will be “heading west.” The fair opens at 2pm.

Ferry Road Health centre’s patients’ participation group, is running an event at the Health Centre on Wednesday July 10, 10 am- 12 noon, when Neville Bettley, the clinical team leader NHS paramedic, will advise on first aid in the home including what to do when waiting for the ambulance to arrive. All are welcome.

You may see an advertisement stating that Iden Singers will be presenting a concert in Playden Church on July 20. This has been postponed until October.

There will be a barbecue and garden party in the churchyard at St Mary’s, East Guldeford, on Saturday July 6, - tomorrow - from 1pm to 4 pm. There is parking available in the field beside the church. The church will be open for viewing. The wall paintings are worth seeing.

On Saturday morning, July 6, there is an introduction to Rye Harbour Nature Reserve between 10am and 12 noon.This is the final walk in the series, when the most westerly part of the nature reserve will be investigated, with a walk starting and ending at Winchelsea Beach. Meet at the toilets on Dogs Hill Road. Booking is not necessary, but donations would be appreciated. The walk is about four miles.

The mid-week services continue on Tuesday at 9.30 am for Morning Prayer and 3.30 pm for Evening prayer, in St. Michael’s Church.

The 11am service for the sixth Sunday after Trinity will be family service followed by refreshments.
