Not being a sporty or athletic type of person, I didn’t expect to have much interest in The Olympic Games.

How wrong could I be? It was fascinating, exhilarating, exciting and successful for team GB. The organisers have much to be praised for, so thank you.

Mind you, I shall not be donning running shorts any time soon.

Very quiet in Playden at the moment - holiday season I suppose.

Rye Country Market invites you to join them on Friday 24th August from 10 am to 11.30 am for coffee or tea and cake for £1. This is at the Rye Communirty Centre, Conduit Hill. Whilst there you could choose from a wonderful selection of cakes, savouries, plants, fresh vegetables and fruit, jams, chutneys, cut flowers, free-range eggs and craft items.

The BIG Rye Show takes place tomorrow, - Saturday 18th August, all day. There is a full programme of Show jumping and many, many other attractions. It only gets a mention here because it is all to raise money to benefit the Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital. There are catering franchises, Pimms bar, live music, classic cars and the JRM rally cars, stalls and side shows. Entry is £5 per car.

On Sunday there is the Maritime festival being held at The Strand Quay.

The Mobile Library will be at Poppyfields on Monday from 11.30 to 11.50 am.

The Rye International Jazz festival takes place from Thursday 23rd to Monday 27th. See posters for further information.

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve has organised 3 events this week. On Tuesday 21st, from 10.30 am to 12 noon you are invited to come down to the beach, explore the strandline, and take home a postcard made from things which you have found. Booking essential on 01797 22 77 84. Meet at Lime Kiln Cottage Information Centre. Charge £2 per child.

On Wednesday 22nd there is a Treasure Trail. Can you follow the map and clues to find the hidden treasure? There may be a prize if you can. It begins at 10 am until 1pm, walk about 2 miles. Pick up your trail sheet from the Lime Kiln Information Centre, £2 per sheet.

And on Friday 24th it is Mud, Glorious Mud ! Explore the saltmarsh looking for crabs and minibeasts hiding in the mud. Wellies advisable ! Booking essential on 01797 22 77 84. Charge £2 per child.

The mid-week services are 9.30 am for Morning Prayer and 3.30 pm for Evening Prayer on Tuesday.

The service on Sunday for the 11th Sunday after Trinity is Parish Communion led by the vicar.
