Playden village voice

STILL grey and uninspiring, but at least Playden was not flooded out.

The social committee of St. Michael’s church are hoping for something brighter for their Traditional Church Fete next Saturday, 21st July. It will be open from 12 noon until 3.30 pm, with stalls, games, refreshments, a BBQ and a Pimms tent. As you know, the churchyard is a pretty place to be, and you are guaranteed to meet friends there.

*The final accounts of the Friends of Playden Church Open Gardens show a handsome total of £792.76. Considering the weather, particularly on the Sunday, this is a very pleasing amount. Repeated thanks to everyone involved and visiting.

Future plans hope to include a Quiz and a Murder Mystery evening.

The Olympic Torch is getting nearer. Our own Denny Nicol will be carrying it in Bexhill on Tuesday 17th at around 5.25 on West Court Drive, Bexhill. She has received her shell suit, which is white, and can choose her own shoes and head gear. She was nominated by her daughter Augusta, who lives in Vienna, for services to the Community. The first she knew about it was the letter telling her that she was accepted!! She will run for 300 metres.

Tony Curd from Peasmarsh, Oliver Curd’s father will also be running.

What non of us can understand is why a person from Playden is running in Bexhill; a person from Bexhill is running in Rye. There is no negotiation.

The Playden Parish Council will be meeting on Thursday 19th July in the W.I. Hall at 7.30 pm. This nicely splits the intervening weeks between the June and September meetings, as there will not be one in August, unless something ‘crops up.’

Over the weekend Rye Harbour Nature Reserve has arranged firstly, an Adopt-a-Beach litter survey, collecting and surveying litter for the Marine Conservation Society’s Beachwatch campaign. Meet at Rye Harbour car park at 10 am until 12 noon on Saturday.

And on Sunday between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm, you could stroll for a couple of miles around the Reserve, finding rare plants like Marsh Helleborine, Least Lettuce, Stinking Hawk’s-beard and Sea Heath. There will also be plenty of the more common flowers to admire. Meet at Rye Harbour car park. Donations would be appreciated.
