Playden village voice

What a lovely weekend we had; warm sunshine, fluffy clouds and beautiful flowers and trees, bird song, including a cuckoo.

Playden Church was a lovely venue for the Art and Craft exhibition, and the old stone walls were awash with vibrant colours.

There was also exquisite jewellery and very clever crafty items.

’simply opera’ gave a spirited performance of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel with the pulpit transformed into the Gingerbread House.

We were rather hoping that the sermon could have been preached from the window on Sunday morning!

And the witch would certainly have enlivened the choir, high heels and all!!!

Our thanks to all the cast, builders of props, accompanists and musical director Lesley Brownbill.

IT was a good weekend as a community event, and many people worked extremely hard. Very sincere thanks go to all of them.

Early financial indications are that about £500 was raised for the Friends of Playden Church. This will go towards the re-shingling of the landmark spire. The woodpeckers have been at work on the cedar shingles.

The next event in the church is Catwalk Connections, to be held next week, 22nd May.

St Michael’s Church Playden is hosting a Catwalk Connections Fashion Show on Tuesday 22 May.

The proceeds of the event are to help raise money towards repairing and reshingling the spire of this beautiful church and local landmark.

Featuring top quality, mix and match boutique, branded and ex-chain store fashions, the outfits are modelled, showcased and cleverly accessorized from a wide range of seasonal garments, all thoughtfully put together.

Sizes 10-20, and all garments are discounted, with many at half the recommended retail price normally found in famous high street shops and department stores.

So come and bring a friend. Tickets are only £5 available from Neame Designs, Rye or contact 01797 224606. Doors open at 7pm and show starts at 7.30pm.
