Playground blood-stained coat mystery solved

A BLOOD-stained coat found in a children's play area was left by a man who used it to soak up a mammoth 45-minute nose bleed.

The Sussex Express reported police had found the coat at the Pells playground, Lewes, and were concerned about a man who was seen with blood on his hands.

The coat was found on June 2 and had been drenched in so much blood investigators feared the man had suffered serious injuries.

But after the story appeared in the Express the man called Lewes police to explain he had found the coat and used to soak up the blood from an extremely heavy nose bleed.

Inspector Viv Johnson said: 'I want to say a big thank you to the Express for helping to solve the mystery of the blood-soaked coat.

'It was actually a woman's size eight to ten coat which had been left there from the previous day.

'The next day someone else had an extremely bad nose bleed, which went on for 45 minutes, and he thought the coat was an old thing and used it while he was waiting for an ambulance to arrive.'
