Plenty more fun still to come at the East Preston Festival

IT'S been a cracking start for this year's East Preston Festival, with the fine weather encouraging villagers and visitors to be out and about, enjoying themselves at the many events in the packed programme.

But there is still lots more to come, as the festival moves into its second half.

Among the highlights to look out for are the Phoenix Big Band tonight (Thursday, June 6) in the village hall, at 7.30 or, just up the road at the Royal British Legion Club at The Street, a cheese and wine evening at 8pm.

Highly talented performers will be taking part in the Arun Young Musicians’ festival concert tomorrow night (7.30), at the village hall, while, just across the road at the Conservative Hall (7 for 7.30pm), M & Co of Littlehampton will be giving a fashion show organised by the festival committee and the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation.

The focus switches to the carnival procession on Saturday (June 8), with the floats and walking groups lined up for judging in Vicarage Lane from about midday, before setting off through the village at 1.15pm.

The parade ends up in Lashmar Road, at the recreation ground, where the festival committee is organising a new event, a Family Fun Afternoon, from 2pm, with Coles Funfair, the Creation Station, Owls About Town and various other stalls and refreshments.

Saturday evening see The Allsorts return to East Preston for a show featuring song, fun and dancing, inviting the audience to board Allsorts Airways for an exciting flight around the world, setting off from the Conservative Hall at 8pm.

Sunday (June 9) may be the festival’s final day for this year, but there is no let-up in the entertainment on offer.

From 10am-4pm the popular festival antiques and collectors’ market will be open for business in the village hall, with about 30 stalls selling items ranging from china and glass to jewellery and postcards.

The village green is set for another busy afternoon on Sunday, with the fun novelty dog show likely to draw a big crowd, and other attractions there including Pimms on the Green and an opportunity to get to grips with croquet, thanks to tuition and equipment provided by the Littlehampton Croquet Club.

The Grand Prize Draw, for which tickets have been on sale all week, will be made at 4.30pm.

And a special festival Songs of Praise on the green takes place at 6pm.
