INFORMATION EVENT: Takes place tomorrow, Saturday, from 9am to12.30pm at Plumpton College. Prospective students can find out more about what the college offers at this event, including the wide range of successful land based courses, made to measure courses, training opportunities and apprenticeships. At the information morning College staff will help with course choices and the application process, as well as offer information about student support, subsided transport across Sussex, loans, finance and careers. There will be an opportunity to speak with specialist academic and support staff, along with current students. Visitors can then take a tour of department student facilities as well as student accommodation on campus. BALCOMBE WALK: With the Footpath Society takes place on Sunday. Meet at Balcombe church (lower lay-by Map Ref: 307 310) at 2pm. This four mile walk will include Boundary Road, Forest Farm, Woodwards Farm, Balcombe Lake and Church. PRINCIPLES OF WINEMAKING: Plumpton College has spaces on this seven-day course the aim of which is to provide a good level of knowledge and understanding of winemaking to those who wish to establish a small winery, enter the wine trade, or have a strong interest in wine. Please take jumble donations to the hall from 9am to midday and do go along at 2pm, there are sure to be lots of bargains. Along with jumble there will be a tombola, refreshments, good as new items, bric-a-brac, books, toys, clothes and linen.

FLOWER BORDERS: At the village hall, are to have a make-over on Sunday September 18. This work party, organised by the village hall committee is to start clearing the borders around the village hall in preparation for re-planting and making the area look more attractive. Most of the shrubs were planted when the hall was built twenty years ago and need replacing or pruning. The parish council have pledged to support this project by providing £100 per quarter. Notcutts have also agreed to provide sponsorship for plants. The work party will start at 10am and there will be no real finish time, just whatever time you can spare. Take your own tools (such as fork, spade, loppers and secateurs) with you. Please contact Sue Akers on 01273 891701, or by email [email protected], if you able to help. It is hoped that lots of people will get involved with this project and make it enjoyable to do.

IN THE SHADE: Is the title of Carollynne Meer’s demonstration at the flower club meeting to be held on Wednesday September 21, at the village hall, at 7.30pm. The cost at the door is 50p for members and £2.50 for visitors, who are very welcome.
