Plundering pupils’ bounty helps Littlehampton lifeboat

IT MAY not have been deep sea diving, but these pupils’ underwater antics helped to serve up a handy sum for a lifeboat charity.

About 40 children from the Rustington Community Primary School, in North Lane, took part in an underwater ‘wreck’ dive to raise money for Littlehampton’s RNLI lifeboat service.

The event took place at the Littlehampton Swimming and Sports Centre, last week.

Children were diving underwater to explore the wreck to find lost ‘treasures’ and drag them back to shore – in this case the edge of the pool.

The young explorers were all being sponsored for their underwater endeavours, with organisers saying it raised more than £500 for the RNLI.

Year-three teacher David Wooller said: “The day went really, really well – better than I thought it would. A few items of ‘treasure’ floated away but apart from that it was superb.”

The dive had all been part of the year group’s term topic of storms and shipwrecks.

Mr Wooller wanted to thank Inspire Leisure for all its support. “Inspire has been so good in helping with the event,” he added.

The cash will be handed over to the RNLI next term.
