“GoCreate will be running mask- and costume-making workshops and sharing their famous Junk Modelling skills with all. Graffiti has been a popular workshop over the past four Joy Festivals so we thought we had better do it again!

“Pallant House Gallery are also getting involved by supplying two artists that will team up with two Joy artists to do Mural Painting Workshops.

“The inspiration for the murals will be taken from Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, two of Mexico’s most influential painters. This workshop will coincide with the Pallant’s exhibition of their work. The murals will be exhibited at the Gallery alongside these greats!”

Joe added: “The Dirty Cabaret will return bringing burlesque and blood, mischief and madness, darkness and delight.

“Incorporating themes taken from the circus and fairground beneath the cover of darkness, Dirty Cabaret is a night of bands, burlesque and circus performance. Inspired by Tim Burton’s Red Triangle Circus from Batman Returns, Willy Wonka’s riverboat trip and The Childcatcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the evening brings these diverse influences together in a dizzying eruption of sound and colour.”

Also on the programme will be the 5th Joy Film Joy, an evening of short films.

Key to the festival this year will be Animals at the Cross - A Masquerade of Creativity in the City Centre on Thursday, August 11 at 6pm.

“Come masqueraded as an outlandish creature of the forest, adorned in masks and/or fancy dress, and meet at the Cross for a big promotional photo-shoot; free participation for all artists and people who like to dress up and frolic.”
