Police act after attacks on German students

TWO German girls were assaulted after exchanging names with two youths from Sidley they met on a bus earlier in the day.

The foreign students, both 15, were walking in Sidley High Street last Wednesday evening when they were approached by the youths they had seen earlier on the bus.

Within 24-hours the girls had been interviewed, given statements and had identified one youth, who was charged with indecent assault and common assault.

The youth was bailed to appear at the youth court on Wednesday, with overnight curfew as part of his bail conditions.

Sector Inspector Max Mosley said: "This boy's behaviour was unacceptable. He was arrested by Community Beat Officer Keith Baldwin when the girls identified him on their way home after giving statements."

Under Operation Columbus, he added, such assaults and attacks on students are dealt with speedily and efficiently.

"This incident was turned around in 24 hours and indicates how seriously we take any attacks on foreign students."
