Police and safety experts investigating fatal incident

A statement from Sussex Police said the incident involved a mechanical digger being used on land off Orltons Lane, Rusper.

Emergency services were called at 3.10pm on Tuesday May 3.

“The 39-year-old from Reigate, Surrey, sadly died at the scene,” the statement said. “Police and the Health and Safety Executive are carrying out an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

“No one else was hurt.”
