Police are seeking witnesses to an incident in Wadhurst High Street in which occupants of a car were harassed by another driver and his passenger.

At about 7.40pm on Saturday, June 27 in Wadhurst High Street, a married couple from Reading, both in their early fifties, were being followed in their Cherokee jeep into Wadhurst High Street by a blue Peugeot 106, which was continually trying to overtake them.

When they got into the High Street, and slowed down for oncoming traffic, the Peugeot overtook and stopped. The driver and front seat passenger, both men, got out, went up to the jeep and began to try to open the doors, which had been locked.

They only got back in their car and drove off when the couple showed them on their mobile phone that they had called the police.

The men are both described as white, and in their early twenties. The driver is slim, is said to have bad teeth, and was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a white t-shirt. The passenger was described as stocky.

There was said to be a passenger in the back of the car, but there is no description of that person.

PC Nikki Desouza said: “This was a frightening experience for the couple and we are following lines of enquiry which we hope will identify the two men.

“Meanwhile we understand there were quite a number of people in the High Street at the time. If anyone saw this incident please could they contact us via 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call on 101, quoting serial 1449 of 26/07. You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111.”
