Police appeal after linking Worthing area burglaries

Police believe two recent burglaries in the Worthing area may be linked.

Officers are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious or who may have information about the incidents to come forward.

Both burglaries occurred during the afternoon of Friday, January 29. Between 2pm and 4.50pm, a property in Offington Lane, Offington, was broken into via a rear, ground-floor window, and jewellery was stolen.

Then, at 4.50pm, a household a householder returned to their home in Vale Drive, Findon Valley, and saw a man smashing glass in a rear patio door. On being seen, the man, and another man, ran off.

Both were described as 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in tall and were wearing dark clothes. The man who smashed the glass was believed to be aged 16 to 20 with short, brown hair and had a small, light-coloured motif on his jacket. His accomplice was about the same age.

Detective Constable Pippa Hannard, of the West Sussex Priority Crime Team, said: “An older man, in his 50s to 60s, was seen standing on the corner of Offington Lane and Burford Close at around 2.30pm. He was stockily built with dark, slicked-back hair and appeared to be wearing a bomber jacket or similar. We’d like to identify this man, who could be a potential witness.”

Police urged the man, and anyone else with information that may help, to email [email protected] or phone 101, quoting serial 1034 (Offington Lane) or 1122 (Vale Drive) of January 29. Alternatively they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
