A woman was punched, knocked to the ground and mugged in Peacehaven on a Sunday afternoon in broad daylight.

The 23-year-old’s purse containing hundreds of pounds was stolen by her attacker on Sunday April 20 at 2.30pm in South Coast Road.

Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses following the unprovoked assault which took place near the Post Office.

Kara Cunnington, from Eastbourne response investigation team, said: “This was an unprovoked attack that left the victim dazed and very shaken.

“South Coast Road is a very busy road so there may have been lots of people passing by who saw the attack or the robber running away afterwards.

“If you saw anything at all, please contact us.”

The man struck the victim when she was walking and he then ran away along South Coast Road.

The robber was white, in his 40s, 6ft and of average build with dark greasy-looking hair.

He was wearing a dark cream knee-length coat, a black zip-up top, blue jeans and white trainers.
