Police appeal for residents to be mindful of burglars

SUSSEX police are appealing for the residents of Bexhill to be both vigilant and to remain mindful of burglars during the winter period.

Sussex police have recently had a number of burglary offences reported to them during the late afternoon, early evening periods.

The main days that the offences have been committed are weekdays, but residents are asked to remain vigilant at all times, and to report any suspicious activities in a combined effort to help police catch the perpetrators.

The reports, which have come from different locations around Bexhill, have all been within a mile of the A259.

Sergeant Andrew Harbour, who is based at Bexhill police station, said: "Sussex police treat all reports of crime with the utmost importance, but burglary offences are one of the areas we promised the community we would combat the most. Each year we reduce the number of offences committed and each year we bring more offenders to justice. This achievement is not solely that of Sussex police but that of each and everyone who makes that call to alert us to the activities deemed suspicious, for those who ensure their properties are secured and items marked."

He added: "Sussex police are keen to work with communities to deter the thieves and to prevent any more of our neighbours being the victims of crime. If you deem something suspicious or feel you can assist the police regarding these matters please call us on, 0845 60 70 999, or call Crime Stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111".
