A Peacehaven man has been arrested after a woman was stabbed to death in central Brighton on Sunday night (February 17).

Sussex Police launched a murder investigation after the 24-year-old woman, also from Peacehaven died in hospital.

She suffered several stab wounds during the incident in Queen Square, just up from the Clock Tower, at 8.45pm.

The victim was taken to hospital but sadly died a short time later.

A 25-year-old man also from Peacehaven was arrested at the scene by police on suspicion of murder.

He is currently receiving treatment in hospital for stab wounds to his body.

These are not believed to be life-threatening and he is under police guard.

Detective inspector Wendy Burton of Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said: “The victim and arrested man are known to each other and this was not a random attack. 

“It took place in the street in Queen Square and was witnessed by passing members of the public and local residents.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident so we can build a picture of what has taken place.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the victim as we investigate this incident.”
