Police arrest pensionerfollowing Porsche crash

A PENSIONER was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in charge of a vehicle following a car accident in Udimore last Friday (May 3).

Police were called to the B2089 following reports of a crash near the junction with Hundred House Lane at around 7.45pm.

A Porsche Carrera, which is believed to have been heading west, had lost control, left the road and collided with a hedge.

But when officers arrived at the scene, there was no sign of the driver.

Police searched the area and discovered the missing motorist had walked to a nearby house and called himself a taxi.

Officers located the taxi and stopped the vehicle just west of Ticehurst before arresting the passenger.

The Porsche driver, a 73-year-old man from Wadhurst, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in charge of a vehicle.

He was taken to a police station and questioned.

The pensioner was later released on bail until June 10, pending further police enquiries.

He has not been charged with any offence.

The man is believed to have sustained only minor injuries in the accident, including a cut to his lip.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved.
