Police award for Littlehampton father and son

A LITTLEHAMPTON father and son who stopped a woman jumping from a bridge have been honoured by Sussex Police.

Trevor, 47, and Toby Raw, 19, were presented with the awards by Peter Evans, of Sussex Police Authority, at a special ceremony at Slaugham Manor.

The spotted the woman, in her 60s, at about 8pm on June 21, standing on the wrong side of the barrier on a footbridge over the A29, in Billingshurst.

Trevor, of Connaught Road, said: “Toby did most of the work.

“I was very proud of him. He went and grabbed the woman off the bridge and I just restrained her after he grabbed hold of her.

“I think she was just crying out for help. When I was talking to her, she said she still wanted to commit suicide.”

The woman was detained under the mental health act.
