POLICE AWARDS FOR OFFICERS

POLICE officers from Lewes district were strongly represented at an awards ceremony held at Hailsham Community Centre on Friday.

Receiving a divisional award for their part in preventing a man from jumping from the cliff top at Seaford Head last year were Seaford officers PC Martin Theelke and PCSO Kirstie Thompsett, and PC Graham Farmer from Peacehaven.

PC Jon Mills who worked at Seaford at the time was presented with a certificate of merit by assistant chief constable Nigel Yeo for his actions in helping to prevent the man from taking his own life.

PC Mills said: 'It was a long way down to the beach. I concentrated on talking to the man and tried not to think of the height. I'm glad we were successful and were able to help him.'

PCSO Thompsett was called up on a further two occasions to receive divisional congratulations.

One was for her contribution to the successful shop watch scheme in Seaford where her personal commitment and drive has resulted in record numbers of businesses joining and a corresponding fall in reports of shop crime.

The second was for her part in identifying two people wanted by police.
