Police called to Pevensey Castle

Police have been called to Pevensey Castle today (Wednesday, July 22).

A number of police cars and officers were seen at the historic landmark from around midday.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said, “Police were called to Pevensey Castle, High Street, at 11.48am to a report of a woman in distress.

“Officers engaged with the woman and she was returned home safely.”

English Heritage, which is responsible for the grounds, said, “We can confirm that earlier today Sussex Police attended to an incident in an outer area of Pevensey Castle which is freely accessible to the public.

“The incident happened away from the main part of the site and we can confirm that the operation of the castle was able to continue as normal.”
