Sussex Police said a police car and a private Mercedes vehicle were in collision on the A27 Upper Brighton Road at the junction with Grove Road, Worthing, at 2.26pm.
A spokesman said: “Nobody was injured. A temporary diversion was put in place while the matter was dealt with.”
As a result, there has been heavy traffic in Worthing, particularly on the A27 and Brighton Road as rush hour made the issue worse.
