A MESSAGE to residents by Wealden District Police Commander, Chief Inspector Richard Coates: “You may have seen in the media that the way we work in East Sussex has changed.
“This is an exciting and challenging period of transformation for East Sussex Police and we look forward to doing things differently across Division, in order to better serve the communities of East Sussex into the future.
“Rather than base our Response Teams all over the place, we have decided to place them in five key hubs around the Division.
“The hubs are Uckfield, Lewes, Battle, Eastbourne and Hastings. This allows us to make better use of our resources and officers, and will help us maintain the levels of service you expect in a changing financial future.
“The hub way of working is being used by other Forces around the country and also by other Sussex Police Divisions in Brighton & Hove and West Sussex; the hubs are achieving good results in these areas and we have every confidence East Sussex will see the same benefits this way of working delivers.
“CID and the new RIT (Response Investigation) teams will be working from three hubs around East Sussex. The hubs are in Eastbourne, Hastings and Uckfield.
“The new RIT teams will focus on the investigative side of policing, allowing our response teams to get out and about sooner after dealing with a crime.
2Because the response teams won’t be spending time in the office, dealing with prisoners or conducting interviews they will be out in their areas, a visible presence for all our communities across East Sussex.
“Your Neighbourhood Police Teams will not change how they work. We know that community policing is the most important part of what we do; our links with the communities of East Sussex are important to us and PCSO’s and NPT’s will still be based locally and will be out and about for you to talk to when you need us.
“Of course, if you have any questions about the changes we are making I am happy to answer them for you; if we don’t have the answer you need straight away we can find out for you and get back to you.
“I am also very pleased to report that our electric bikes are out and about across Wealden. Sponsored by the safer Wealden partnership these bikes allow us to cover more of the area and cut our emissions as well.
“We have already had success in catching criminals on them.
“We’re proud to be serving Wealden and East Sussex communities.”
