Detective Inspector Mark Ling said on Wednesday that officers from the Bexhill-based Local Support Team and led by Sergeant Lee Floyd went to the property near the Bending Crescent recreation ground soon after midday on Tuesday in support of an electricity supply company.

The company had reported that although the house was empty electricity was being used.

DI Ling said: "It turned out that there was a hydroponics set-up in the house. We recovered just over 70 cannabis plants.

"We also got about 2,000 in cash plus a nine-ounce block of cannabis resin.

"Three people were later arrested, a 48 year-old man, a 30-year-old man and girl of 17."

Substances recovered from the house have been sent to a laboratory for analysis.

Local support teams specialise in executing search warrants.

Under reorganisation which created the new East Sussex police division, a six-member team is now based at Bexhill and available to respond to situations in the town.
