Police donation to Rye Ents Workshop

AN old police van has been given a new lease of life transporting young film makers in the Rye area.

Sussex Police have donated the retired van to local Rye Harbour based charity Entertainments Workshop.

The charity will use the van as a minibus to help them continue their outreach work with young people from across Hastings and Rother districts and beyond.

Shaun Taberer, Senior Manager at Entertainment Workshops, said: “On behalf of everyone at Entertainment Workshops, we would like to thank Sussex Police for their continued support of our charity and the very generous donation of this minibus.

“Sussex Police play a huge and valuable role in youth engagement and recognise that many young people reside in hard to reach areas. This vehicle will certainly assist with this, with many young people now having an opportunity to participate in activities that they would not normally have.”

PC Paul Fielder, of Rye Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I know I speak for not only Rother district but the rest of Sussex Police when I say that charities such as Entertainment Workshops are so important when it comes to youth engagement and development of their skills, not just for learning and the work place but socially too.

“I am so pleased to be able to hand over the keys to this vehicle which is really going to assist the young people of towns and villages throughout the county and my colleagues and I look forward to working in ever closer partnership with this great cause.”

Through Entertainment Workshops young people in the Rye area have been able to set up their own television station called Rother TV.

Entertainment Workshops is working with Rye College students teaching them sound, lighting and performance skills.

It also plays a vital role in helping youngsters who have problems fitting into a school environment and has been praised by police and local councillors.

Young people are able to benefit from a state-of-the-art green screen video suite and a fully equipped recording studio, both of which will be put to full use with expert tuition on hand.

Rye county councillor Keith Glazier has said: “This is a fantastic resource for young people.”

David Byrne, who set up the company, said: “The only limit is the kids’ imagination.”
