Police hunt bag snatcher

POLICE are hunting a bag snatcher who struck in Heathfield last week.

A 57-year-old Mayfield woman was knocked to the ground and suffered a sprained ankle when the man made off with her handbag, outside the Old Forge Cookshop in Station Approach.

The black bag had cash, bank cards and a bunch of keys inside.

The offender is described as a white man in his early 20s, of average height, with dark hair and wearing a purple t-shirt.

Detectives are particularly keen to trace a helpful man who noted the registration number of the offender s getaway vehicle and handed it into nearby shop staff.

Detective Sergeant Paul Phelps said: This man has already been a great help in police enquiries. He was unable to wait at the scene for police to arrive, but we believe he may have important information about this incident.
