Police identify man who drowned in sea at Peacehaven

THE MAN who died after falling into the sea at Peacehaven has been identified by police as Darren John Jones, 44, from Harrow, in Middlesex.

A post mortem is due to be held on today (Tuesday April 5) to confirm the cause of death.

Mr Jones drowned when he fell into the sea at Peacehaven on Saturday morning (April 2).

The 44-year-old victim was walking with another man along the promenade at the bottom of cliffs near Steyning Avenue at 10.45am.

Both men ended up in the water.

A group of men working nearby tried to rescue them and one went into the sea.

The rescuer and Mr Jones’ friend were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where they were later discharged after treatment.

The victim was airlifted to Eastbourne District General Hospital, however was declared dead just after 12 noon.
