All three floors of the building and the roof were ablaze and the fire was described as 'well alight' when the firefighters arrived.

The fire was so intense a water carrier from Burgess Hill was needed because the fire crews were using so much water to fight the blaze.

Firefighters also had the extra danger of having to move a number of gas canisters which had been dumped at the back of the building.

This morning (Friday) fire investigators were joined at the scene by police to find out how the blaze started.
