Sussex Police said some homeowners often did not do enough to secure sheds and outside storage areas even though they were used to store high value equipment such as power tools, lawnmowers and bikes.

Sargeant Kieran McDonald said these were attractive to criminals because they were high value, difficult to trace and easy to sell on.

He added: 'There are some simple things people can do such as ensuring that their shed is in good condition and locked with padlocks.

'Any valuables should be either stored elsewhere or marked with anti theft security markings, failing that people should make sure serial numbers of their property is recorded.
