Police issue warning after dodgy scrap metal trio spotted in village

POLICE officers were called to Burwash following reports that a man who claimed to be looking for scrap metal was trying to steal items from a garden.

Concerned residents in Shrub Lane called police just after 10.15am on Thursday, May 17, after spotting a suspicious white ‘N’ registration van, containing two men and one woman, in the area.

One of the men had been seen in a resident’s garden, but when challenged by a neighbour, said he was looking for scrap metal.

But police believe the man was attempting to steal items from the garden.

The man caught in the garden was described as white, in his late 30s to 40s, 5ft10 in height, of stocky build, with a round face and balding, wearing overall-type trousers and a grey sweatshirt.

The driver was described as a white man in his early 30s and of average build.

The woman passenger was described as white, in her early 40s, of slim build with long blonde hair.

Police arrived at the scene, but were unable to find the vehicle.
