POLICE MINISTER IN LEWES

Sussex Police will be showcasing its areas of expertise when Police Minister Tony McNulty visits today, September 18.

One of the areas he will examine is the county's neighbourhood policing.

Members of the Neighbourhood Specialist Team will accompany Mr McNulty on patrol through Kemp Town, Brighton. This will include a stop at the 3Sixty/Pink News newspaper office, whose staff are very supportive of the work Sussex Police do within the LGBT community.

In addition, Mr McNulty will be visiting the Tactical Firearms Unit at HQ in Lewes, to discuss Sussex's contribution to national firearms training and be given a demonstration of tactics.

He will also attend Sussex House, to meet members of the Major Crime Branch and HQ CID, which investigates serious crime.

It is proposed that these protective services (in particular counter terrorism and serious and organised crime), should be developed on a regional basis in co-operation with other South East police forces in the wake of the stalled enforced mergers.
