Police name man who died in Eastbourne fire

Police have named the man who died in a fire in Eastbourne at the weekend.

Fire swept through a flat in Cloister Court in Seaside Road in the early hours of Sunday (February 14).

A man died and flowers have been left at the scene.

A police spokesperson said, “The body has not yet been formally identified but is sadly believed to be that of 33-year-old Thomas Doyle, who had been living in the room where the fire occurred.

“His family, who live at different locations outside Sussex, have been informed.

“An investigation has been carried out, and a postmortem took place on Wed 17 February, which established that death resulted from smoke inhalation.”

The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious and the Coroners Officer will be continuing enquiries.
