Police officers assaulted by man in Crawley

A man has been charged after two officers were assaulted in Crawley on Friday (May 13).

Shortly before 8pm, police were called to Five Acres, Northgate following a report a woman was being assaulted.

Sussex Police said when officers attended they were met by a 34-year-old man and when they spoke to him, he was extremely hostile and violent towards them.

He was arrested for assault and during this time two officers were assaulted.

A female officer suffered a broken wrist and her male colleague bruising a swelling to his eye.

Darren Josephs, 34, of Five Acres, Crawley, has been charged with three counts of assault, including grievous bodily harm, common assault and assault with intent to resist arrest.

He remains in custody and will appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning (Monday, May 16).
