Police officers hurt in car chase

TWO police officers were injured and police cars rammed repeatedly in a dangerous 15-mile chase on Friday night.

PC Andrew Huggett's foot was broken and PC Dan Pitcher suffered whiplash. Both police cars were put out of service.

At one point the officers managed to get in front of the Metro they were chasing but were rammed out of the way.

This week Insp Natalie Carron appealed for witnesses who saw the chase or any driver who had to swerve out of the way of the Metro, to come forward.

"This car was being driven extremely dangerously and we would like to talk to anyone who had to take avoiding action to prevent an accident," she said.

Police were called when a car was reported to have been taken from Albany Road, St Leonards, at about 11pm on Friday. An H-registered Rover Metro was seen being driven off at speed, leaving another vehicle, with its engine running, at the scene.

The Metro was spotted at Queensway, St Leonards, and police followed the car at speed through Crowhurst, Sidley and Bexhill until it crashed at the Denbeigh bends, Little Common Road.
