Police station evacuated after grenade handed in Uckfield

Uckfield Police Station in Newtown was evacuated after a member of the public handed in a World War I hand grenade at about 10.40 this morning.

The entrance was closed with tape and police cars all moved to the nearby petrol station.

The bomb disposal squad arrived at the site at 4pm and checked the grenade.

The site has been declared all clear and staff are now back in the Police Station.
