Police swooped on a suspect car on the outskirts of Lewes during Thursday’s afternoon rush-hour and opened fire in front of horrified motorists.
The drama happened at the Kingston Roundabout of the A27.
Witnesses said a man could be seen in the road with his arms above his head as police cars screeched to a halt beside him.
It is understood that officers from the Metropolitan Police fired ‘Hatton Rounds’ - a type of shotgun blast designed to breach doors - to stop the Mercedes.
Motorists reported seeing numerous officers in “four or five” unmarked vehicles swoop on the car, and that a man was later led away in handcuffs.
