After a search of both the restaurant and a nearby flat more than a dozen people of Chinese origin were questioned. Seven were arrested on alleged immigration offences. They were detained in police cells in Hastings and Eastbourne to await further questioning by immigration officials. The operation was carried out by eight government officers and eight members of Sussex Police.

Commander of the Bexhill Neighbourhood Policing Team, Inspector Martin Mann, said he was pleased with the result of the carefully planned joint-venture.

He said: "This was a very well planned operation with a successful outcome." The restaurant was open for business yesterday.
