A car travelling north on the dual carriageway had collided with a barrier on the central reservation. A second vehicle then crashed at the same location. There were no injuries.

At 7.52am a Fiat 500 car collided with the central reservation on the A24 just north of the Washington roundabout. The woman driver was not thought to have been injured.

Then at 8.21am a Citroen C3 collided with the central reservation barrier on the A24 near Ashington. The woman driver was shaken but unhurt.

Acting Sergeamt Phil Badman said: “Sub-zero temperatures are affecting even main roads. If motorists have to scrape windscreens before setting off it means there is ice about and they should slow down and adjust their driving style accordingly.

“Even with the sun up, stretches of road are still icy and care needs to be taken. Advice on winter driving can be obtained by logging on to www.sussexsaferroads.gov.uk.”
