Police warn of a rise in scam calls

The warning follows a recent rise of reports across the Littlehampton area and further afield over the past couple of months.

Detective Chief Inspector Ali Eaton from the Surrey and Sussex Police specialist crime command is encouraging people to report anything they believe to be a scam call.

DC Eaton said: “Under no circumstances would the police or your bank request your PIN number over the telephone or arrange collection of your bank cards from your home address in this manner.”

She said people should never give out their bank details to someone who has contacted them, unsolicited.

If homeowners have any suspicions they should call their bank and the police.

“I urge anyone reading or hearing this message to pass it on to any friends and relatives who may not be aware of this particular type of targeted fraud, to prevent any vulnerable friends or family members from becoming victims,” she added.

Residents have been heeding the force’s advice, with 107 crimes having been reported. Those wishing to report a scam call, can contact police on 101 or email [email protected] quoting Operation Edisto.
