Police said officers received a report from a concerned parent after a driver stopped in Brambling Road and asked the child if she lived there.

The girl was on one side of the road and her mother was on the opposite side when the dark green old style Toyota Land Cruiser pulled up, officers added.

He drove off as her mother approached.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “While the man did not touch the girl or engage her in any further conversation, her mother did find it suspicious and reported the matter to police and the headteacher at Heron Way school who contacted other parents and other local schools.

“No other reports have been received, but anyone with information about this or similar incidents should email [email protected] or call 101 quoting serial 509 of 23/03.”
