Police warning after spate of building site burglaries across Horsham

Sussex Police are warning tradesman working across the Horsham district to lock and secure their vehicles after a series of burglaries over the past week.

Police are investigating a series of break-ins to vehicles belonging to builders and tradesman that have occurred at building sites and car parks.

A van parked in Little Oak, in Partridge Green, was broken into between 5pm on Thursday April 2 and 9am on Saturday April 4.

Police said entry was gained via the side door of the vehicle which may have been insecure.

No damage was caused but various Makita power tools were reportedly taken.

In a separate incident a white 05 registered Nissan Primastar van was stolen from outside an address in West Chiltington.

Police said the incident, in The Juggs, occurred between 10pm on Monday April 6 and 7.15am on Tuesday April 7. The van also contained a high value of work tools.

In another separate incident a battery drill was taken from the cab of a van parked in a car park in Storrington.

Police said the theft, in Mill Lane, occurred between 11am and 11.45am on Wednesday April 8 whilst the owner was working nearby.

Posting online the Neighbourhood Policing Team advised: “If you are a tradesman working in the local area or on a building site please ensure that you lock and secure your vehicle even if working nearby and property mark any tools.

“Security staff on sites are also asked to challenge unknown people on their sites and contact the police if any suspicious people or vehicles are seen.”
