Police warning after spate of overnight thefts from vans

Police in Seaford, Newhaven and Peacehaven are warning van owners to be on their guard after a number of overnight thefts from vehicles in the area.

A white VW transporter van was targeted in Beresford Road, Newhaven, between 10pm and 8am and a white Citroen relay van was broken into in Linthouse Close, Peacehaven, between 11pm and 8am.

In both cases thieves stole power tools and police have not ruled out the possibility that the incidents may be linked.

Sergeant Stuart Mullins, of the Seaford Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Van owners are advised to be wary and ensure their vehicles are adequately secured.

“This is particularly important if they contain tools or other valuable items.”

Anybody who noticed anything suspicious or who may have other information about either of the recent incidents is asked to email [email protected] or call 101, quoting serial 248 of 18/02 (Newhaven) or 621 of 18/02 (Peacehaven).
