Police witness appeal after gang attack students

FOUR foreign students were attacked as they walked along Teville Road, Worthing.

They had to take shelter in a local kebab shop and wait for the police after the gang of two boys and one girl set about them.

The students, aged 19 to 20, received minor injuries but did not need to go to hospital.

The girl in the gang is described as aged about 16, wearing a white jacket, with shoulder length blonde hair and wore a ring on nearly every finger.

The incident happened on Sunday at 11.45pm.

Jill Pedersen, police spokeswoman, said: "We will thoroughly investigate any racially aggravated crimes.

"It is sad that a tiny minority see visiting students as vulnerable targets. We are focusing on identified areas where trouble may be caused, especially where students gather, as well as possible repeat offenders. Working closely with the language schools, we offer students advice with the aim of keeping them safe so that they can enjoy their stay.

"Host families are also asked to play their part in keeping their guests safe by passing on useful advice such as not to carry unnecessary cash or valuables and to only take essentials when going out. "

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them on 0845 6070999.
