‘Absolutely magnificent’ Horsham Big Nibble impresses council

Councillors praised Horsham’s Big Nibble weekend yesterday evening at the first full council meeting after the summer holidays (Wednesday September 4).

Philip Circus (Con, Chanctonbury), chairman of Horsham District Council, said: “The enormous buzz and excitement was absolutely magnificent.

“On this occasion I can say that this is the sort of event that makes you proud to be chairman of this council.”

Christine Costin (LDem, Trafalgar) said: “It’s fantastic, the growing of this is great.

“I hope you didn’t eat too many of the baking things chairman.”

Helena Croft (Con, Roffey North), cabinet member for horsham town, communication and special projects was on the judging panel for the Great Horsham Bake Off on the Sunday (September 1).

She said: “There were 200 entries which is superb.

“After the 20th of the 55 cakes I didn’t want cake for a long time.”

It was announced that 350 people participated in this year’s Beer Trail.

Praise for the Steyning Festival and Horsham Food and Drink Guide was also aired in the council chambers.

Roger Paterson (Con, Pulborough and Coldwaltham), cabinet member for the local economy, commented: “What’s particularly impressive this year is that Steyning district have put together as part of Horsham food festival a Steyning festival.

“I would actually hope this would be something of a marker for other areas to get up to speed because if Steyning can do this so can other towns.”
