Appeal lodged over homes in South Downs village

A planning appeal has been launched against Horsham District Council for failing to reach a decision on an application for 16 new homes.

The application, for Old London Road, in Washington, was submitted by Violeta Ltd on December 10 2019 and should have been decided on in March.

Five months later and with no decision made, members of the planning committee will decide whether they want to oppose the appeal.

A report to the committee, which will meet on Tuesday (August 18) said that, even if an appeal had not been lodged, the application would have been refused because it did not include any affordable housing.

In April, Violeta Ltd submitted an almost identical application for the same site. The report said the appeal would be withdrawn if this one was approved.

The meeting will start at 2.30pm on August 18 and will be streamed to the council’s You Tube channel www.youtube.com/user/HorshamDC.
