Labour will be hoping to make a return from the Bognor area. They all face opposition from the UK Independence Party and the British National Party who are looking for their breakthrough.

There is also fierce competition for the 16 seats on Bognor Regis Town Council where the Lib Dems and the Tories have held seven seats each with the remaining two filled by Independents.

Elections are also taking place in some of the parishes. Polling stations are open between 7am and 10pm. The results will be announced the next day.

The Observer asked the main parties to explain why they would be good for the town.
