BREAKING NEWS: Two Horsham Conservatives resign from Horsham District Council

By-elections are to be held on Thursday May 2 for two now vacant seats on Horsham District Council following the resignations of two Conservative councillors.

The by-election for the Cowfold, Shermanbury and West Grinstead Ward follows the resignation of Andrew Dunlop on March 13, 2013 and for the Chantry Ward (Amberley, Parham, Storrington & Sullington and Washington) following the resignation of Chris Mason on March 12, 2013.

Mr Mason’s was one of three seats in Chantry, where leader of the council Ray Dawe holds a seat.

Nomination papers for candidates must be delivered to Horsham District Council, Park North, North Street, Horsham, RH12 1RL by noon at the latest on Friday April 5.

A statement confirming the nominated candidates’ names will be released as soon as possible after noon on Friday April 5.

Applications to be added to the Register of Electors must reach the Electoral Registration Officer, Horsham District Council, Park North, North Street, Horsham, RH12 1RL by Wednesday April 17 to be effective for this election.

Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes, and proxy amendments or cancellations, must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Horsham District Council, Park North, North Street, Horsham, RH12 1RL by 5pm on Wednesday April 17.

Applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Horsham District Council, Park North, North Street, Horsham, RH12 1RL by 5pm on Wednesday April 24.

Applications to vote by proxy at this election applied for on grounds of physical incapacity, where that physical incapacity occurred after 5pm on Wednesday April 24, must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Horsham District Council, Park North, North Street, Horsham, RH12 1RL by 5pm on polling day.

The by-election polling hours will run from 7am to 10pm on Thursday May 2 and there will be three polling stations for the Cowfold, Shermanbury and West Grinstead Ward – Cowfold Sports Pavilion, Dial Post Village Hall and Partridge Green Village Hall.

For the Chantry Ward there will be four polling stations – Amberley Church Hall, Storrington Guide Hall, Sullington Parish Hall and Washington Memorial Hall.

The by-election results will be declared on Friday May 3 and a copy of the results will be posted at Horsham District Council’s offices in North Street as well as on the Horsham District Council website (www.horsham.gov.uk).
