Candidate Profile: Andrew Lawson, independent

I was born in Eastbourne in 1951 '“ and have lived at Chiddingly with my wife (still my first one) and three children for 17 years.

I studied Economics at Cambridge and for the last few years have run the family business at Lewes.

I've never been a member of any political party but I've always voted Conservative.

I believe in less government and letting people take up the slack '“ it's mostly up to us.

I believe that I could find a great deal of common ground with anybody of goodwill and commonsense and, running as an Independent, I hope to reach out to people of all shades of opinion.

I'm not a career politician '“ I am a candidate in this election because I think that Parliament is in urgent need of fresh blood, untainted by the 'expenses scandal'.
